These Vegan Pigs in a blanket are easy to make and delicious. You can make a big batch and it will be an immediate crowd-pleaser. Save this as a vegan appetizer for game day!
Pigs in a blanket are a cute name for a snack. It’s a hot dog in a blanket of dough. They are easy to eat and even easier to make. And this vegetarian version is no different. Just get your sausage and roll it in dough. Bake in the oven and it’s ready.
You can brush the top with a vegan “egg” wash and garnish with black sesame seeds and flaky salt. That’s optional though. It will be perfect with or without it. Don’t forget your ketchup and mustard for dipping.

Ingredients for Vegan Pigs in a Blanket
- Crescent Roll Puff Pastry. This is accidentally vegan and easy to use. You can also check your local store for puff pastry. Most are accidentally vegan.
- Vegan Mini-sausages I used the Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links. These taste pretty good and are the perfect size for pigs in a blanket. You can use another type of vegan sausage. If it’s too big, you can always chop it in half.
- Melted Vegan Butter. To brush on top. This helps give it a buttery flavor.
- Chickpea flour. A little chickpea flour and water create a good egg wash for savory bakes. You brush some on top and add your garnishes, like black sesame seeds and flaky salt. It firms up when it bakes, making your toppings less likely to slide off.
- Oil. To help it crisp up.
Storing It and Extra Tips
- These are best eaten fresh out of the oven. But if you must have leftovers, you can put the rest in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. Just be sure it is cooled down. Then reheat in the oven or toaster oven to crisp up the puff pastry.
- Don’t wrap your sausage in too much dough. It will puff in the oven and create a roll of more dough than sausage. It’s not too problematic if you love bread.
- Once you have it portioned, it’s best to put the sausage on the wide side of the triangle and roll. Then you can brush with the chickpea flour mixture and garnish with toppings.
- You can be creative by changing out the toppings or dips. I went with the classic ketchup and mustard, but you can go BBQ, hot sauce, or honey mustard.
Enjoy!
